As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to expand, the demand for computing capacity — and therefore energy — is increasing significantly. To address this challenge, experts from Germany and the UAE convened for a webinar titled “Innovative Solutions for Energy-Efficient and AI-Ready Data Centers.”
Organized under the Emirati-German Energy Partnership, the online session brought together policymakers, experts, and industry representatives to discuss practical approaches for developing sustainable and high-performing data centers.
The webinar opened with welcome remarks by Anne Jacobs-Schleithoff from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and Eng. Mozah Alnuaimi from the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. Both underlined the importance of international cooperation in driving forward sustainable and resilient digital infrastructure.
Ahmed Abdulrahman Al-Ali from the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure presented an overview of the UAE’s growing data center sector. Johan Nilerud from Khazna outlined how data centers can be designed to be more energy-efficient and ready for AI applications. Jens Groeger from the Oeko-Institut discussed key challenges and strategies to enhance energy performance, while Fabian Buda from the Data Center Group highlighted holistic solutions for efficient and reliable data center operations. Joe Thomas from STULZ introduced advanced cooling technologies, and Andreas Pistauer from Siemens Energy shared insights on optimizing power systems to reduce overall energy consumption.
Throughout the discussion, speakers emphasized that future data centers must combine high performance with energy efficiency. They pointed to advanced cooling and power solutions, as well as supportive policy frameworks and collaboration across sectors, as key factors for achieving this goal. The exchange also highlighted the value of continued cooperation between Germany and the UAE in promoting sustainable technological development.
Looking Ahead
The webinar underscored the shared ambition of both countries to strengthen the link between digitalization and sustainability. By connecting policymakers, researchers, and industry experts, the Emirati-German Energy Partnership continues to encourage innovation and advance progress toward energy-efficient, AI-ready data centers.
Guidehouse and the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK) are commissioned to implement the Energy Partnership between the governments of both countries.
