The economy in the UAE and the whole GCC region depends on foreign migrant workers, so called "expats". With around 85% of the population, the UAE has the highest share of expats in the region. The majority are employees from South East Asia, working in the construction and service industry. But there are as well interesting opportunities for Westerners e.g. German citizens, primarily addressed to mid to high level employees with a university degree. The salaries are higher than in Germany as no taxes are incurred. Yet, it has to be noted that the cost of living, especially rent and school fees, are significantly higher than in Germany.
