Review: AHK Business Breakfast

10 days ahead of COP28, our latest AHK Business Breakfast was dedicated to the climate conference happening from 30 November to 12 December in Dubai.

Oliver Oehms welcomed the guests at the vibrant campus of the newly opened University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Dubai. H.E. Sybille Pfaff, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dubai, gave a comprehensive summary of the current political developments and Germany's engagement in COP28. Numerous high-ranking politicians and business delegations from Germany are expected to visit the UAE during the two weeks of the conference.

Heena Nazir, Director at GTAI provided a thorough analysis of the #climatestrategy of the UAE, discussing recent initiatives and energy consumption trends in the country and the surrounding region. Numerous projects and investments are underway, with a particular focus on advancing #hydrogen projects.

During a fireside chat our esteemed speakers, Kees Hoving, Chief Executive Officer Middle East & Africa Deutsche Bank AG - Dubai (DIFC) Branch, Batoul Husseini, Executive Director, Government Affairs, Strategic Markets, MENA, SAP Middle East, Silke Klausen, Head of Business Development APA & Regional Representative South-East Asia thyssenkrupp AG - Regional Platform Asia Pacific Africa (APA), Helmut von Struve, CEO of Siemens in the Middle East and the UAE, detailed their company's engagement in COP28, discussing their anticipated outcomes, strategic approach, and recent initiatives focused on tackling climate change.

The exchange of technology, cooperation among a diverse range of stakeholders, and international frameworks and regulations are essential elements fostering a sustainable future. German companies are well-equipped in terms of innovation and technology, positioning them as key drivers in this field.

Lastly, Yulia Kasiyanova, MBA, from SCHLÜTER GRAF l Passion for Law, updated the audience on the current state of data protection laws in the UAE and KSA.
