Hamburg and the Gulf region are moving closer together from day to day. An important player in this connection is the Dubai based Hamburg Representative Office UAE. It was founded in 2006 and represents the Government of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, and the Hamburg Tourist Board.

Our overall aim is to foster business relations between the Gulf region and Hamburg. Our office acts as initial contact for Hamburg companies and institutions wishing to set up business in the UAE. We provide market information, contacts and consultancy. We also support local companies who wish to set up business in the city of Hamburg which offers a large variety of business opportunities. In our office you can get firsthand information and we provide our clients with effective Hamburg contacts.

Our office also acts as liaison contact between Hamburg and local government entities and organizations.

Since more than 10 years, Hamburg-based companies have been taking part in the region’s largest healthcare exhibition, the Arab Health in Dubai, as part of the the North German exhibition stand.

In January 2012, “The Healthcare Industry Service Centre Dubai” was inaugurated by the Hamburg Senator for Health and Consumer Protection, Cornelia Prüfer-Storcks. The Service Centre is operating under the umbrella of the Hamburg Representative Office. It is particularly supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and hospitals from the Hamburg Metropolitan Region with setting up business in the Gulf region and generating contracts.

The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry are connected by a close strategic partnership and in October 2007 they jointly organized the first Dubai-Hamburg Business Forum in Dubai, which was attended by about 150 local companies and 50 businesspeople from Hamburg. Since that time, three more Dubai-Hamburg Business Forums took place alternately in Hamburg and Dubai. The forums provide the companies with a platform for the regular exchange on latest developments in selected industriesas well as a networking opportunity for new business contacts and potential business partners.

During the 4th Dubai-Hamburg Business Forum in March 2014 in Hamburg, a Memorandum of Understanding for the close cooperation of the maritime economy of both cities was signed. Since 2010, the city regularly welcomes a maritime delegation from Dubai to the largest shipbuilding exhibition in the world, the SMM in Hamburg. In 2016 Dubai's maritime industry will be represented for the second time with a booth at the SMM organized by the Dubai Chamber.

The fifth Dubai-Hamburg Business Forum took place in March 2016 in Dubai. Topics were: Smart Urban Living, Smart (Maritime) Logistics, E-Health, Smart Energy.

The two chambers also cooperate in the field of education and arbitration. Both universities, the Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA) and the University of Dubai, which are associated with both chambers, have a cooperation agreement for several years. This agreement includes students and teaching staff exchanges.
