With the launch of an Expo 2020 eSourcing portal companies can now look out for business opportunities with the Expo 2020 Dubai. The online procurement system will link all Expo related procurement operations and enable rapid deployment of tender opportunities openly and transparently to the global business company. The Expo 2020 eSourcing portal enables users to interactively access and review open and awarded tenders. The portal ensures that all tenders and timelines for tenders, issued by Expo 2020, are posted onto a single site. Bidders will be able to view and download bid documents as well as all procurement procedures, changes and instructions. Potential bidders only need to register their business online.
In November 2013, the United Arab Emirates won the right to host the World Expo in Dubai in 2020. This will be the first time that the World Expo is staged in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA).
Expo 2020 has envisioned drawing on the long-lasting heritage of the great World Expos of the past by presenting the inventions and innovations of its time. In a period of unprecedented interdependence, the key to success are partnership and collaboration. At the core of Expo 2020 lie the themes Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability as the enablers for future progress.
Located in Dubai South, on the crossroads between Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well as neighboring major air and shipping hubs, the exhibition venue offers unique operational and logistical efficiencies. Additionally, the area will serve as a core for an entirely new city development. The expected 25 million visitors can comfortably arrive at the venue with the newly extended metro, a dedicated bus shuttle service (Expo Rider) or with private transportation thanks to the plentiful car parking spaces.
With more than 4 square kilometers, the site offers ample space to showcase the over 200 participants. At the heart of the venue lies a central square, called “al wasl” (eng. connection), conjoining the three thematic districts – one for each of the core topics Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
In accordance to the theme of sustainability, a legacy plan ensures that 80% of investments can be retained after the Expo. Based on its buildings and infrastructure, the area will be more than doubled after the Expo and the conference and exhibition center will be established as a major event venue in the region. Hence, the Expo site will be part of the development of the entirely new city, Dubai South, which will serve as a foundation for Dubai’s transformation into a knowledge economy. It will be hosting an ecosystem for Dubai’s high priority strategic sectors, such as transport and logistics, travel and tourism, construction and real estate, and education.
Conforming to the themes of Expo 2020, the organizers implemented an in-depth audit process to ensure compliance with their high health and safety, worker welfare, environment, quality, and sustainability standards.
The construction works are already well under way. The site will be hosting both self-built pavilions to be constructed by the exhibitors as well as to-rent structures. Participants, who chose to construct their own pavilions, will also be able to tender out their requirements via the eSourcing Portal.
Due to its massive scale, the Expo’s organizers rely on numerous partners of all sizes and origin. Upon completion in 2020, construction related tenders will reach almost 250 and will be tendered on the central eSourcing Portal. This online portal simplifies cooperation between buyers and suppliers as a simple and cost-efficient way to cooperate with local and international partners. The organizers are currently exploring options to further ease market access for foreign enterprises without a local trade license.
Information about upcoming tenders can be accessed via the eSourcing Procurement Portals
